Repair or replace a dishwasher: use cost, age, and leak risk
A clogged drain path may cost little. A leaking tub or multiple major failures can change the answer quickly.
- 1
Confirm whether the problem is installation, maintenance, or a failed part. Filters, hoses, latches, and some pumps can be reasonable repairs.
- 2
Get the full repair price and ask what warranty covers the part and labor. Compare it with delivery, installation, old-unit removal, and any plumbing updates.
- 3
Treat cabinet or floor damage as a separate cost. Repeated leakage can outweigh the value of keeping an older machine running.
- 4
Consider performance. Poor cleaning caused by loading, detergent, water temperature, or a dirty filter does not automatically justify replacement.
- 5
Replacement is usually the stronger option for a leaking tub, severe rack corrosion, or a major repair on a machine already near its expected service life.
